2006 Annual Report |
Friends,
Welcome to the American Red Cross of Northern Utah's 2006 Annual Report, presented for a third year over the internet.
Keeping our commitment to the community, your local American Red Cross continues to provide critical humanitarian services to over 450,000 constituents in North Davis, Weber, Box Elder and Morgan Counties. During the past year:
- When a disaster threatens or strikes, the Red Cross is there. This year we responded to 55 local disasters, including 47 residential fires. We helped 282 affected individuals with emergency food, shelter and supplies.
Because being prepared can make your family and community safer and sometimes minimize injury and destruction, we provided 59 disaster education presentations in the community.

The American Red Cross provides communication between those in the Armed Forces and their families. We have a worldwide network that reaches service members wherever they are to communicate a birth, death or illness. This year we provided emergency connections for 274 military families. (See: Helping Our Armed Forces )
This year, 30,704 individuals were taught lifesaving skills through classes offered by the chapter. From first aid, CPR and AED training to swimming and lifeguarding, American Red Cross programs help people lead safer and healthier lives.(See: Teaching Lifesaving Skills )
The American Red Cross of Northern Utah administered emergency financial assistance to 2,075 disabled and elderly families in our community who were having difficulty paying their utility bills. Without these resources our clients would be without vital heat and power.

Every two seconds, someone in the United States needs blood. Thanks to generous blood donors, the Red Cross collects and distributes nearly half the nation’s blood supply. Over the last year, our Chapter recruited volunteers and donors, and donated 22 units of blood.
We depend on volunteers of all ages and backgrounds to carry on our work. Volunteers constitute 97 percent of our total workforce, serving as members of the board, instructors teaching lifesaving skills, disaster action team members, office administrators, event organizers and more.
In Fiscal Year 2006:
497 active volunteers contributing countless hours to ensure that the Northern Utah Chapter was here for our community.
Maintained and supplied 4 Disaster Action Teams consisting of 36 volunteers on-call to respond to all disasters.
Staffed 59 community fair booths/displays with trained volunteers.
